The Latest News & Upcoming Events
Last update: May 9, 2008

School Star Party - May 15
The Joe Michell school in Livermore is having an Open House on Thursday, May 15th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Right after the event, they'd like to have telescopes set up in hopes of sparking interest in science and astronomy. The scopes are requested for 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. If you can help out, please contact Dave Woolsey at fatdawg ~at~ comcast ~dot~ net. The Joe Michell school is located at 1001 Elaine Ave, Livermore.

H2O Closure and Open House
The club's dark sky site, H2O, will be closed from May 15th through the 18th due to our hosts being away. The gates will be locked in such a way that keyholders will not be able to gain entrance.

Our first Open House of the season is scheduled for May 31st (weather permitting). If members are interested in checking out our dark sky site, meet at the corner of Mines & Telsa at 6:45 p.m. The car caravan will depart at 7:00. There is a $3 per car entrance fee (exact change). We plan to leave the site around midnight to caravan back.

Our site is primitive--no running water or electricity; but we do have outhouses. Our sliding roof observatory houses a nice 17.5" telescope, and we do have several concrete posts for wedge anchors.

We have one more Open House planned for June 21st (same meeting time and place).

Sycamore Grove Star Party - June 7th
We have a tentative date for our first Sycamore Grove star party--June 7th. LARPD Ranger Glen Florey will be presenting an astronomy program at the Wetmore entrance to the park, and would like TVS' assistance with the observing part of the program.

TVS Logo Wear
You may have seen some TVS members wearing shirts and jackets embroidered with the TVS logo. If you are interested in obtaining an embroidered logo item, you can do so by ordering whatever you'd like through Land's End's Corporate Sales section and specifying TVS logo #0118948. You will need to set up an account, which will ask for the logo number and the TVS customer number (3452021).

TVS has also set up shop at Cafepress for members to buy non-embroidered TVS logo wear. You can have the TVS logo put on t-shirts, mugs, buttons, hats, coasters, etc. You buy through Cafepress, and Cafepress sends TVS a portion of the proceeds. Visit the web site to see all the TVS logo possibilities.
