Awards Program honor bestowed

Congratulations go to student member Kenny Oslund of Castro Valley. Kenny accurately observed and sketched the complete list of Messier Objects and presented his observing log to president Dave Anderson for inspection. An obviously impressed Dave commented, "This is a remarkable achievement for Kenny. It was quite an experience to look at his detailed drawings. I also congratulate Kenny's mentor, Debbie Scherrer. Debbie does an outstanding job with our young astronomers."

Pennies from heaven

At the beginning of the June 21 planning meeting, treasurer Mike Anderson offered the following report to the board:
Checking $2,926.20
CD #1 $3,451.24 (matures 8/17/99)
CD #2 $2,131.38 (matures 8/27/99)
CD #3 $2,666.68 (matures 7/6/99)
TVS is extremely fortunate to count a number of generous, long-term members in its ranks. We thank Jack Marling for his donation to the club treasury, and for the Lumicon discounts he offers to members.

Quick news wrap-up

This month's newsletter is quite full, so look for more detailed club news next month. In brief, observatory director Chuck Grant is hard at work on the club scope, and our June open house was a success. Club librarian Chris Cody continues to label and enter our holdings.
